Summertime in Ocean City always takes Erik Windrow back to his childhood. June Bugs
In Ocean City, the start of summer attracts what’s known as “June-bugs,” or high school seniors from Maryland and Virginia who want to spend a week—or if their lucky enough—a month at the shore. By the time Erik graduated from high school, he was no exception. He and his friends couldn’t wait to get back to the shore to catch some waves, go fishing and hang out on the boardwalk. But by summer’s end, Erik couldn’t imagine leaving Ocean City and decided to make the Eastern shore his permanent home.

Getting Reel
A native of Connecticut, Erik has lived in Ocean City with his wife, Colleen, and their children, Claire, Max, and Ellie for the last two decades. This local businessman and avid fisherman started out working on sport fishing boats and still fishes annually in the White Marlin Open, the world’s largest billfish tournament. He later attended Salisbury State University and gained his degree in graphic design and photography. But Erik, who had grown up helping out in his grandfather’s restaurant, ultimately followed in his footsteps by owning and operating his own restaurant. With his keen business savvy and entrepreneurial spirit, he also created the only 24-hour rockfish tournament on the East Coast, which is still a much-anticipated annual event in Ocean City.
